Peaceful, highly religious, fur-covered dragons that are simply uninterested in galactic affairs.
As the last race the Valen and Ventara encountered in their expeditions charting Magnus, their resistance towards galatic commerce was met with a general apathy by the foreign crews. Due to this, the Koshyo never properly entered the Galactic economy. However, they still have the infrastructure and resources to do so if they wish, and some do.
Their home planet is simply referred to as "Theta," a name coined by the Valen after the Koshyo have repeatedly failed to come to a consensus on a name.
The Koshyo are very dragon-like in appearance, but opting for a soft coat of fur instead of the scales you might expect. They're truly just a very evolved form of lizard, featuring rough, flat, and fleshy palm, finger, feet, and toe pads. Their fingers feature claws, which can be quite sharp. They have tall, slightly drooping ears, short snouts with nostrils at the sides, and a rather carnivorous set of teeth.
Koshyo fur patterns vary greatly, but rarely exceed three colors. They are often natural shades, including tan, grey, white, black, brown, and even orange in some cases. They have large, soft tails, fluffy chests, and large bunches of fur on their heads.
Koshyo are rarely seen as very strong individuals, often taking on a soft, almost plush look during most of the year. However, scientific reports from the first expedition to the planet indicates that males "develop significant, startling levels of muscle mass" as the autumn months approach.
The Koshyo are not a conventional civilization. They exist in fairly small numbers on all continents of their planets, living off the land in rather traditional communities. Despite this, they're an ancient civilization with an older recorded history than just about all other races within Magnus. They live in small cities with structures built by hand, have no large scale manufacturing or industry, or even much of a concept of business outside of small markets.
These small communities will all travel to a common meeting ground once every year for a ceremony, abiding by long-standing traditions. They're hesitant to change, but they're tolerant and inviting of visitors and happily include them in their activities. Notes from scientists at the time mention the local population's saliva including consistently high levels of capsaicin, although the reason why this data exists (or if it's even accurate) are unclear.
When the Valen and Ventara visited during their expedition, the Koshyo people told them they had been "expecting them for some time." This was seen as some kind of intimidation tactic by the scientific expedition at first, but the planet's inhabitants seemed to almost know too much about them before they'd had a chance to explain what they intended to do. When the Koshyo told them that they'd been informed of the expedition by "the gods," the scientists quickly became spooked and left.
Not much is known about Koshyo culture that's certain. The vague information available on the Exogrid from those initial expeditions, as well as independent reports from those who choose to stay with the Koshyo for short periods, is that they're highly religious. They claim to have regular visits by their gods, although visitors haven't see anything out of the ordinary during their visits. At least, nothing with any real proof.
The Koshyo are a very intelligent species, being quick to pick up on the universal language used by all within Magnus. Despite this, however, they can operate largely on instinct, especially during certain seasons on their planet. Theta's own Exogrid datasheet recommends you avoid visiting the planet during the planet's autumn season, as that's when the Koshyo's instincts are at their peak influence over their actions.
Other than those vague details, not a lot is known about the Koshyo, their history, or their religion. They can be seen sometimes venturing throughout Magnus on their own, most often the "young adults" of the population. You can ask them many questions, but you're unlikely to get much for answers without visiting their planet yourself. That's what they recommend you do, anyway.
